Do Syrians buy clothes and shoes online? Yes, but in their own way. We studied paid ads by shoe sellers in Syria, sale posts on Facebook, and read more than 300 buyer comments. Here is what we found.

How do shoe sellers advertise?

We found 26 Syrian pages selling shoes with paid ads. Most are small pages that fund an ad for a few days and then repeat: the median ad runs only 3 days. More than half the ads are videos, the button is Messenger or Instagram, and only one ad sends buyers to a website.

What do buyers say?

In comments on sale posts, more than half the people want to buy: they ask about price, address or delivery, or write a dot ".." to get the price in a private message.

  • 24% Direct question about price or delivery
  • 28% A dot to get the price privately
  • 48% Other comments

The biggest difference came from the type of post:

Post that shows the price36% buying questions
Normal post, no price30%
"Comment and get the price"3%
"React and comment = gift"3%

Giveaway posts collect many comments, but not buyers. A post that shows the price brings ten times more direct buying questions.

Why "original" is no longer enough

The word "original" is now written on Vietnamese and Turkish shoes priced between 8 and 35 dollars. Buyers have seen it so often that it lost its meaning. What convinces them today is proof, not the word.

At the same time, trust tools are almost absent from ads: inspection before paying did not appear in a single ad, and exchange, warranty and cash on delivery appear in 5% or fewer. Whoever offers these guarantees clearly stands out at once.

How to sell clothes and shoes online in Syria

Write the price in the post. It is what turns a comment into an order.

Give a clear guarantee: inspection before paying, size exchange, and cash on delivery.

Prove it is original with photos and video: the label, the model number, the box, not the word.

Mention delivery to all governorates and the courier: post and cash-on-delivery couriers now ship between governorates again.
